Anger as Police No-Show After Duck Attacked with Catapult in Danson Park
A witness has slammed police for failing to turn up after a shocking catapult attack on a duck at Danson Park.
Youths Fire Catapults, Injure Duck by Lake
The disturbing incident unfolded on Friday 15 August, when a gang of youths were spotted firing catapults near the park’s lake. The witness, standing some distance away, heard the crack of a shot and saw an injured duck struggling to swim away.
“I called the police who never turned up,” the witness fumed. “The youths had several catapults between them and were also on bikes, so they could easily get away. I was hoping to act as a witness and finally see someone caught and made an example of for this horrific crime — but the police never showed.”
Park Security Ignore Youths; Police Confirm Delay
Park security did approach the troublemakers, but the witness claims staff “didn’t seem that interested.” The youths soon disappeared, slipping away on their bikes.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the call was logged under reference CAD 4020/15Aug25. A text sent to the caller stated:
“We aim to arrive within 60 minutes. We prioritise all calls in this area and in some circumstances this may mean a delayed response time.”
However, no officers attended before the youths dispersed, leaving locals furious.
Animal Welfare Fears and Call for Witnesses
Concerns are mounting for animal welfare, with the witness warning the culprits might target more wildlife in the park.
Anyone who saw the attack is urged to contact police quoting reference CAD 4020/15Aug25.
