Shoplifter Busted After Blitzing West Sussex Supermarkets for £1,400
David Blann, 36, from East Preston, has escaped actual jail time despite hitting West Sussex shops for over £1,400 worth of stolen goods. The crook struck 25 times between March and July, plus one attempted theft, ripping off multiple supermarkets in the area.
Quick Catch and Swift Guilty Plea
Blann was nabbed red-handed on 18 July and charged the same day. He didn’t bother fighting the charges and pled guilty straight away at Worthing Magistrates’ Court. On 22 September, he was handed a 17-week prison sentence – but it’s suspended for 12 months, letting him off with a warning.
Police Slam Retail Crime’s Toll on Communities
Sussex Police blasted the shoplifting spree for wreaking havoc on local stores and workers. Sergeant Amelia Roberts slammed the crime wave:
“Retail crime has a real impact on shop workers and the community. We remain committed to tackling offenders and supporting businesses.”
Operation Apprentice Cracks Down on Repeat Shoplifters
The crackdown comes under Operation Apprentice, Sussex Police’s no-nonsense campaign targeting serial shoplifters to protect local traders and keep thefts at bay.
