A career criminal who terrorised england/england/brighton/”>brighton/”>Brighton with break-ins, thefts, and a stolen car drama has finally admitted guilt. Craig Knight, 34, of no fixed address, pled guilty to a string of offences spanning Moremore than two years. Now he faces a hefty jail term.
Caught Red-Handed in Chapel Street
Knight’s run-in with the law Beganbegan to unravel in January 2023. Caught behaving suspiciously in a chapel-england/”>chapel-england/”>Chapel Street car park, he set off a van alarm and was held by security until police arrived. Officers found a knife, cannabis, and stolen goods from a tattoo shop burglary – including dog treats, oddly enough.
CCTV linked Knight to damage at a nearby florist. Despite a recall to prison for licence breaches, Knight kept up his crime streak.
From Burglary to Stolen Car Getaway
By June 2025, Knight faced fresh charges: burglary, attempted burglary, and knife possession. But the escalation came in July. A clifton/”>Clifton Hill resident woke to find Knight in their hallway. He fled when the alarm sounded – but not before nicking valuables and the homeowner’s car.
The police tracked him down back in Lewes, caught red-handed returning to his stolen ride.
Relentless Crime Wave Ends in Arraignment
Not deterred, Knight struck again between 8 and 13 August. He burgled an outbuilding in Pelham Street, assaulted supermarket staff during a spree on St James’s Street, tried breaking into a Farm Hill home, and ransacked a vehicle in Portslade.
With CCTV and forensic evidence stacking up, officers finally arrested him.
Victims Get Justice
Knight admitted to:
- Two counts of burglary
- Burglary other than a dwelling
- Theft of a vehicle and theft from a vehicle
- Assault
- Theft from a shop
- Possession of a knife and drugs
Eight more offences from August will be reviewed during sentencing at Lewes Crown Court on 14 October.
Detective Constable James Botting said: “Knight was comfortable taking what wasn’t his, repeatedly targeting homes and small businesses across Brighton. His crimes caused real distress and disruption. We welcome his guilty pleas and hope this brings reassurance to victims and the wider community.”
After years of chaos, Knight’s guilty verdict could finally bring peace to Brighton’s residents and businesses plagued by his criminal antics.
