Career Criminal Craig Knight Finally Caught After Brighton Crime Spree
Caught Red-Handed in Chapel Street Car Park
Craig Knight, 34, a career criminal with no fixed address, has finally admitted a string of break-ins, thefts, and a stolen car drama that terrorised Brighton for over two years. Knight’s downfall began in January 2023 when he was caught acting suspiciously in a Chapel Street car park. Setting off a van alarm, he was held by security until police arrived. Officers found a knife, cannabis, and stolen goods from a tattoo shop burglary—including dog treats, of all things. CCTV also linked him to damage at a local florist. Even after being recalled to prison for licence breaches, Knight kept on his crime spree.
From Burglar to Stolen Car Getaway Driver
By June 2025, Knight was charged with burglary, attempted burglary, and knife possession. Things escalated in July when a Clifton Hill homeowner woke to find Knight inside their hallway. He fled when the alarm sounded but made off with valuables and the resident’s car. Police soon tracked him down in Lewes, caught red-handed trying to return to the stolen vehicle.
Crime Spree Continues Before Final Arrest
Undeterred, Knight struck again between 8 and 13 August. He burgled an outbuilding in Pelham Street, assaulted supermarket staff during a spree on St James’s Street, attempted another break-in on Farm Hill, and ransacked a vehicle in Portslade. Mounting CCTV footage and forensic evidence led to his arrest.
Justice for Knight’s Victims
Knight has pleaded guilty to multiple offences including:
- Two counts of burglary
- Burglary other than a dwelling
- Theft of a vehicle and theft from a vehicle
- Assault
- Theft from a shop
- Possession of a knife and drugs
Eight more offences from August will be reviewed at sentencing on 14 October at Lewes Crown Court.
Detective Constable James Botting said: “Knight was comfortable taking what wasn’t his, repeatedly targeting homes and small businesses across Brighton. His crimes caused real distress and disruption. We welcome his guilty pleas and hope this brings reassurance to victims and the wider community.”
After years of chaos, Knight’s guilty plea could finally bring peace to Brighton’s residents and businesses plagued by his relentless crime spree.
