Kent Police Crack Down on Summer Crime Spree in Herne Bay
Kent Police have launched a major crackdown on Herne Bay and nearby areas after a summer plagued by antisocial behaviour. The force tackled a shocking rise in catapult attacks on wildlife, vandalism of local businesses, underage drinking, and rowdy beach parties.
Special Task Force Hits the Streets
With complaints flooding in, officers stepped up patrols and created a dedicated neighbourhood task force based at Herne Bay Police Station. Stop-and-searches more than doubled, soaring from 63 last summer to 160 between June and August this year.
Arrests also rocketed, hitting 169 — almost double last year’s 90. Theft and shoplifting were major issues, with 83 arrests up from 23 the previous summer. So far, 49 people have faced charges, cautions, or community resolutions.
Dispersal Orders Break Up Troublemakers
Police issued 58 dispersal orders in Herne Bay over the summer, compared to just eight in nearby Whitstable. The orders targeted large disruptive groups on streets and beaches, helping restore calm to the troubled coastal hotspots.
Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant
Kent Police vow to keep up the pressure to protect residents and local businesses. They’re urging the community to stay alert and report any suspicious or antisocial acts to help keep the towns safe and peaceful.
