Conman Peddles Fake 65-Inch TVs in Surrey and Hampshire Lay-Bys
An Irish trickster is scamming drivers in Surrey and Hampshire, hawking bogus 65-inch flat-screen TVs from his white van at roadside lay-bys. The short, stuttering man, claiming to be from Luton, pulls up in a 2004 white Renault Trafic and dangles what looks like a bargain on wheels.
Fake Televisions, Real Rip-Off
The van is stuffed with TVs wrapped in bubble wrap, sporting fake price tags over £2,000. The conman spins a yarn about having mates working in Curry’s warehouses, offering half-price staff discounts and same-day delivery. It’s all smoke and mirrors. The “TVs” are actually broken 50-inch returns wrapped up to look like 65-inch screens. The sharp salesman tempts drivers with prices starting at £350 but claims he might drop it to £300 “because he’s having a good day.”
Warning Signs You’re Being Scammed
