Emergency Scramble at Newtown Creek

Just after noon, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 from Lee-on-the-Solent, along with the Cowes Lifeboat and a Coastguard search and rescue team from the Needles, rushed to the aid of the injured man onboard a vessel in Newtown Creek, Isle of Wight.

Collapsed While Collecting Mooring Fees

The casualty was collecting mooring fees from a yacht when he suddenly collapsed, falling backwards and hitting his head. Medics crewing the yacht acted immediately, performing first aid.

Paramedic Winched Down for Critical Rescue

A paramedic was winched down from the Coastguard helicopter to carry out urgent resuscitation. With the yacht’s tricky location, rescuers decided to transfer the man by lifeboat out of Newtown Estuary, where he was then airlifted by helicopter to Portsmouth.

The man received onboard paramedic care before being rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital for further treatment.
