Man Arrested After Gun Fired in Aylesbury, Attempted Murder Probe Underway

Police swooped on Church Square, Aylesbury, late Friday after a shot was fired from one car at another. Thankfully, no one was hit. But the drama didn’t stop there.

Gunfire Erupts Between Vehicles

Just after 10:15pm on 24 May, officers were called to a scene where a gun was fired from a vehicle carrying three people at a second vehicle with one occupant. Neither side was hurt during the shooting, but both cars fled the scene.

Crash and Violent Assault Follow

The two vehicles later crashed in nearby Hampden Gardens. After the collision, a 26-year-old man was violently assaulted and rushed to hospital with critical injuries. Police stress no firearm was thought to be used during this second incident.

Police Hunt for Gun and Additional Suspects

A 54-year-old man is now in custody, charged with attempted murder. Officers are still searching for the missing gun and want to speak to two more people believed to have been in one of the vehicles involved.

  • Road closures remain across Church Square, Hampden Gardens, 1 Avenue, Carrington Road, and Chaloner Road.
  • Police maintain a scene watch and are combing the area for clues.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

“We’ve made an arrest but the investigation is far from over,” said Inspector Andrew Alexander of Aylesbury police. “If you have information, please get in touch. Also, if you saw a silver BMW 330i or a silver Nissan Almera around the area before the incident, we want to hear from you.”

Local Police Commander Superintendent Tim Metcalfe added, “We know the public will be worried. We believe these offences are linked but there is no wider threat. You’ll see more officers in the area as we investigate. Please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
