Would-Be Model’s Glam Dream Shattered as He’s Charged with Eight Burglaries
A young man who once dreamed of the catwalk has swapped the runway for the crime scene. Shakane Charles, 21, has been slapped with eight charges after a spree of burglaries and thefts across Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook.
Car Stolen from Tunbridge Wells Home
It all kicked off on 2 January 2020 when Charles allegedly nicked the keys from inside a house on Forest Road, Tunbridge Wells, and made off with the car. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in Penshurst – but not before items like sunglasses and wireless headphones were stripped from inside.
Number Plate Theft Leads to Fuel Theft in Cranbrook and Pembury
Just days later, on 5 January, number plates vanished from a parked VW Polo in Cranbrook’s Angley Road. Shockingly, a Vauxhall Corsa was then spotted sporting those same plates. That same day, petrol stations in Cranbrook and Pembury reported fuel being taken without payment.
Arrest and Court Appearance
- Police apprehended Charles on 6 March 2020 at his home on Lurkins Drive, Goudhurst.
- He faces charges of burglary, theft, two counts of making off without payment, two counts of driving without a licence, and two counts of driving uninsured.
- Charles was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 7 March.
- He’s been bailed to show up at Maidstone Crown Court on 6 April 2020.
From aspiring model to accused crook – Charles’s future looks a whole lot less glamorous now.
