13-Year-Old Boy Who Kicked Two Police Officers Gets Referral Order
A 13-year-old caught on camera kicking two police officers in a shocking attack has been handed a nine-month referral order.
The brutal assault, filmed and shared millions of times across social media, sparked outrage nationwide. The two officers, PC Reem Ali and PC Andrew Macpherson, were trying to detain a suspect linked to an assault when they were set upon by a gang on 10th June.
Attack Sparks Condemnation from Top Officials
Mayor Sadiq Khan and Home Secretary Priti Patel both slammed the attackers. The boy, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, apologised in court, claiming he “acted impulsively” influenced by recent US events.
From Bystander to Attacker
Initially filming the officers, the boy suddenly launched kicks at PC Ali and PC Macpherson. During the incident, he told PC Ali to be “ashamed” as she helped detain the suspect and hurled abuse, saying: “Don’t chat to me like that, do you understand? Don’t ever f***ing chat to me like that.”
Sentence and Apology
At 1 Magistrates’ Court, the boy pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and was ordered to pay £307 in costs, including £100 compensation to each officer.
Chairwoman Sharon Higgins said: “This is a serious offence, but as a 13-year-old, this has been a wake-up call. We understand your feelings were influenced by the US and Black Lives Matter movement.”
In a letter to the court, the youngster admitted, “It’s hard to be a police officer,” and expressed regret for his actions. He was arrested after officers recognised him from previous encounters.
