Four Dead in Horrific A40 Crash Near Oxford

Thames Valley Police are still at the scene of a devastating road crash on the A40 near Oxford. The tragic collision has claimed the lives of three children and one adult—all from the same Chinnor family in Oxfordshire.

Late-Night Smash Involving Two Vehicles

Emergency services were scrambled at 9.50pm on 12 October following reports of a collision between a silver Subaru people carrier and a white HGV near the railway overbridge west of Oxford.

Multiple 999 calls rolled in as officers and paramedics rushed to the scene.

All were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the Subaru—a 30-year-old man and an 18-month-old girl—were rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in critical condition. The HGV driver, 56, suffered only minor injuries.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation into this incredibly tragic incident,” said Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Dominic Mahon of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

He urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact Thames Valley Police quoting reference 43200321914. Sergeant Mahon also requested no public speculation on the cause while the investigation continues.

Support for Grieving Family and Thanks to Responders

Next of kin have been informed and are supported by Family Liaison Officers. Police praised first responders and emergency workers for their professionalism at an “extremely upsetting scene.”

The A40 remains closed in both directions for the ongoing investigation. Police emphasised the gravity of the tragedy and urged respect for the families affected.
