Driver Jailed After Schoolgirl’s Tragic Death on Manchester Road
Kevin Pryce, from Quail Street, was sentenced today at Manchester Crown Court for a fatal crash in October 2020. He had earlier pleaded guilty to five driving offences, including causing death by dangerous driving.
Speeding and Unroadworthy Car Behind Fatal Crash
On the morning of Monday 5 October 2020, police were called to Lightbowne Road following a collision between a car and a pedestrian. 14-year-old schoolgirl Mia Strothers was critically injured while crossing the road after being hit by Pryce’s vehicle.
Mia tragically died two days later despite urgent hospital treatment.
The court heard Pryce was driving a silver BMW 318 at up to 57mph in a 30mph zone. The car was uninsured and found to have six faults including defective brakes, described by experts as “unroadworthy and dangerous.”
Hit-and-Run and Lies Uncovered
After the collision, Pryce drove away despite significant windscreen damage. He went to a friend’s house claiming his car had been struck with a brick. Police later arrested him nearby, and he tested positive for illegal substances.
In interview, Pryce admitted knowing about the brake issues but lied, saying he was rushing to get the car fixed. Investigations proved this false.
