Cops Launch High-Tech Bus Sting to Nab Drivers Texting at the Wheel
From Tuesday 15 February to Thursday 17 February, police cracked down hard on distracted drivers across major road networks in Oxford, Hampshire, and Berkshire. Using a Stagecoach bus as a lookout post, officers caught numerous motorists flouting mobile phone laws.
Mobile Madness on A40, A34 and Motorways
- Tuesday: On Oxford’s busy A40 and A34, cops stopped 10 drivers for using phones and 4 for losing control behind the wheel.
- Wednesday: Patrols hit the A34 in Hampshire and Berkshire plus the A303, M27, M3 and A31, nabbing 10 phone users, 3 insecure loads, and 2 losing control.
- Thursday: The crackdown continued with 14 motorists caught on mobiles, 6 with unsecured loads, and 3 out of control.
Officer Warns: Mobile Use Quadruples Crash Risk
“While most drivers behave responsibly, some still risk lives by fiddling with their phones,” said Sergeant Dave Hazlett of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit.
“Research shows you’re four times more likely to crash and won’t react fast enough to hazards when distracted by mobile devices.”
