Drug Den Shut Down: Police Win Closure Order After Anti-Social Chaos

A notorious drug hotspot in Bishop’s Stortford has been slammed shut by court order following grim scenes of drug abuse and violence.

Three-Month Ban on Oak Street Property

Stevenage Magistrates’ Court granted a closure order on Thursday 3 March, banning anyone from entering the Oak Street address for the next three months.

Unauthorised visitors face arrest, fines up to £5,000, prison time, or both.

Local Residents Suffer Months of Nightmare

Police launched an investigation after reports of drug taking, dealing, and persistent anti-social behaviour at the property.

Officers teamed up with residents to build a staggering 95-page dossier of evidence, revealing:

  • Drug users flocking day and night, causing noise, shouting, and disturbance
  • Repeated ambulance call-outs and frequent police visits
  • Cars pulling up for on-the-spot drug deals
  • Threats of criminal damage and harm against the occupant by dealers
  • Residents terrified to bring family near the address, fearing for their safety
  • Frequent physical fights between visitors
  • Spike in town centre crime linked directly to the property’s visitors

Police Vow to Keep Up the Pressure

“This closure order will hopefully send a message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated in Bishop’s Stortford,” said PC Obi Anoliefo.

“Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour or drug activity in their neighbourhood is urged to report it. Your calls can make a real difference.”

Inspector Mark Collins praised local residents and partners: “The effect of anti-social behaviour in the local area has been devastating. Thanks to their support and joint work with East Herts Council and Clarion Housing, residents can finally start getting some deserved peace without living in fear.”
