Teen Dies After Brutal Stabbing in Smethwick Street

Derlano Samuels, just 17, was viciously stabbed multiple times, including a knife tip lodged in his skull, in a shocking attack on May 1 last year in Cape Hill.

Chased and Cornered in Shop Storeroom

The horror began shortly before 4:10pm when Cam’Ron Dunn attacked Derlano in the street, stabbing him twice. The terrified teen fled but was chased into a shop on 1 Road. Dunn followed and trapped him in a storeroom, stabbing him repeatedly before fleeing the scene.

Rushed to Hospital but Dies

Despite his severe injuries, Derlano managed to escape the shop and get into a nearby car. Minutes later, the vehicle crashed on Heath Street 1, where officers found Derlano lying on the ground. Paramedics rushed him to hospital but he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

A post-mortem revealed the fatal stab wound was to his chest, alongside other brutal injuries including the knife tip embedded in his skull.

Quick Police Action and Arrest

Police swiftly recovered CCTV footage capturing the terrifying attack. An officer recognised Dunn from the clip and raided his home in Sketchley Close, Smethwick at 1:20am the next day. They arrested Dunn, then 18, on suspicion of murder.
