London Man Busted at Chatham Station After Police Dog Sniffs Out Drugs
A 20-year-old man from London was caught red-handed at Chatham railway station on Tuesday evening when Police Dog Dougal singled him out as a person of interest around 5pm.
Attempted Escape Foiled by Medway Officers
The suspect tried to bolt but was swiftly tackled and arrested by the Medway Community Policing Team. Officers seized a substantial haul of crack cocaine and cannabis from him.
Operation Targets Drug Smugglers on Kent Rail Network
- The man was among several people stopped at Chatham and Gillingham stations during a crackdown supporting British Transport Police’s mission to keep Kent’s railways drug and weapon-free.
- The sweeps also tied in with the national anti-knife campaign, Operation Sceptre, running until Sunday 22 May.
Police Vow to Keep Rail Lines Clean
Inspector Vanessa Foster of Medway Community Policing said: “Railways are often used by drug dealers to move harmful substances from London into Kent and nearby areas. We’re committed to stopping them in their tracks.”
“Working with British Transport Police and other forces, we’ll keep sending a clear message: drug supply won’t be tolerated here in Medway or anywhere else in Kent. Dealers will be caught and arrested,” she added.
Inspector Kasia Filipek of British Transport Police’s Southeastern proactive neighbourhood tasking team stressed: “Local police support is crucial for successful operations. We cover the railway network across many areas, so teamwork is key to putting criminals under pressure wherever they run.”
The arrested man remains under investigation by British Transport Police detectives.
