Girlfriend Beater Jailed After Brutal Attacks on Ex and Police in Strood
A violent thug has been locked up for 20 months after attacking his ex-girlfriend and a police officer in Strood.
Brutal Assault in Ex’s Car
Christopher Kelly, 39, of Marshall Path, faced maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 20 May 2019. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his former partner, causing common assault, and assaulting an emergency worker.
The court heard horror details of the attack on 8 February 2019. Kelly punched his ex in the face while they were in her car on Darnely Road, then fled before police arrived. The victim revealed Kelly had also assaulted her days earlier, even throwing her mobile phone out of a window.
Violence Escalates as Kelly Attacks Police
The violence did not stop there. When police officers came to arrest Kelly at his home the very next day, he lashed out. One officer suffered a neck injury after being assaulted during the arrest on 9 February 2019.
Justice Served
Kelly was charged with two counts of assault plus assaulting an emergency worker. The court sentenced him to 20 months behind bars for the attacks.
Investigating Officer PC Harry Lewis said: “Kelly inflicted painful and serious injuries on his former partner, leaving her anxious and fearful.
“His violent reaction towards the officer attending his home was not only unnecessary but resulted in additional prison time being added to his sentence.
“Assaulting an officer who is simply just doing their job is just as unacceptable as attacking a former partner. The custodial sentence reflects the severity of Kelly’s offences.”
