Woman Dead After Horror Crash on A56 Accrington Bypass
A nightmare smash on the A56 Accrington Easterly Bypass has claimed the life of a woman in her 30s. The tragic crash happened just before 8pm on Thursday, October 13, near junction 8.
Mercedes Rear-Ends Toyota, Leaving Car Flipped on Roof
A Toyota CH-R was heading northbound towards the roundabout when it was slammed from behind by a Mercedes C220. Both cars careered off onto the grass, with the Toyota flipping onto its roof.
Driver Arrested for Drink Driving After Fatal Collision
- The Toyota passenger, a Nelson woman in her 30s, suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.
- The Toyota driver, a man in his 40s from Nelson, was hurt but his injuries were less severe.
- The Mercedes driver, a man in his 50s from Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Sgt Craig Booth from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Sadly, a woman has died as a result of this collision and our thoughts are with her family at this very distressing time. A man has since been arrested but enquiries are very much ongoing. I would appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch with us.”
