Shocking Hit-and-Run Lies After Woman Killed Crossing Busy Road
Jordie Stokes, 27, told police she was behind the wheel when 81-year-old Ann Cassidy was struck on Park Lane on 27 May 2021. But the truth was far darker. Mrs Cassidy suffered a head injury and was rushed to hospital. Initially thought stable, her condition worsened, and sadly she died the next day.
Guilty Pair Caught in CCTV Lie
PC Neila Morrell from South Yorkshire Police revealed the shocking details: “Officers breathalysed Stokes at the scene. She claimed she was driving a blue Seat Ateca and had insurance. But once Mrs Cassidy passed away, CCTV footage told a different story.” The video showed a white man behind the wheel—not Stokes. She only arrived after the crash, before police got there.
“We arrested Stokes, and she admitted her partner, Harrison Buckley, was actually driving.”
Driver Flees But Cracks Under Pressure
Buckley, 24, fled to Blackpool after the crash. But when he heard Stokes had been arrested, he surrendered to police. He confessed he wasn’t insured and forced Stokes to lie about who was driving. PC Morrell explained:
“Buckley knew he’d be in trouble for no insurance. He pressured Stokes to claim she was driving. Stokes complied, misleading early police investigations.”
PC Morrell sent her condolences: “My heart goes out to Mrs Cassidy’s family. The grief caused by Stokes and Buckley’s reckless actions won’t go away. Nothing can bring back their loved one.”
