Granny’s £2,000 Cash Stolen in Newcastle Bank Heist

An 86-year-old woman was targeted in a cruel daylight robbery after withdrawing £2,000 in cash from a Lloyds Bank in Nottingham city centre.

The Day of the Crime

On Tuesday, December 6, the pensioner caught a bus from Bulwell, arriving in town around 12.40pm. After grabbing a coffee at 2.12pm, she went into the Lloyds Bank on Lower Parliament Street to withdraw a large sum of money. Preferring cash over cards, she tucked the £2,000 envelope into the bottom of her handbag.

Two Suspects Keep Close Eye

Two women were spotted following the victim into the bank, keeping her under close watch. After she left the bank, she headed to shops in the Victoria Centre.

Inside one store, a woman pretended to need help reaching an item on a shelf. As the victim stepped out, she realised her handbag had been rifled through — and the cash had vanished.

Police Hunt ‘Heartless’ Thieves

“This was an appalling theft on an elderly lady who enjoys her regular trips downtown,” said PC Madison Moss-Hayes.

“She’s suffered significant financial loss and is understandably very upset. We’re doing everything to catch and charge those responsible.”

“We urge anyone withdrawing large cash sums to be extra careful. Thieves use distraction tactics like faking needing help or trying to befriend you.”

Officers have released photos of the two women wanted for questioning. If you recognise them, contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident 0500 of December 6, 2022, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
