A Swan "prisoner" Was Taken Off The Streets Of Plymouth By Police After It Caused Avian-themed Havoc Similar To That Seen In A Hit British Comedy Film

The bird was spotted waddling around the Harbour yesterday, where it was allegedly removed by a drunk man (February 1).

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene at 6.20 p.m., stating that the swan had been involved in a collision on Mutley Plain following its removal from the Harbour. Following that, members of the public reportedly wrapped the swan to keep it from injuring itself, and officers then placed it in the back of the car.

Fortunately, “every swan” involved survived the incident. Contact Officer Mel Rooks who took the call for the incident stated one of the comments on the police log was “just passed someone stroking a swan”, adding it was her “comment of the day.

The swan was safely transported to a local veterinary centre, where it was “nursed back to health,” according to the officers involved on Twitter. It took “great skill and determination” to safely capture it and place it in the back of the police car, they added.

It certainly brings to mind the renowned running joke from comedy classic film Hot Fuzz, in which Sergeant Nicholas Angel and PC Danny Butterman are plagued by a rogue swan throughout the film.

Police were called to Mutley Plain at 6.20pm yesterday following reports that a swan had been removed from the harbour by a man who had left the area prior to police arrival,” a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said.

“It was reported that the swan had been struck by a vehicle. Members of the public had wrapped it in a blanket and called the vets. Officers took it to the vet and left it in their care.”
