It has been revealed that an 18-month-old boy died from multiple injuries, including broken bones in his ribs, feet, and toes.
As harrowing details of the baby’s death emerged in court today, a former couple is set to stand trial for the murder of little Alfie Phillips.
The death was caused by “the overwhelming cumulative nature of the injuries and asphyxiation,” according to Prosecutor Jennifer Knight KC.
Jack Benham and Sian Hedges are scheduled to stand trial in October for the 2020 murder of the youngster in Hernhill, near Faversham.
A court heard that Alfie died on November 28 after spending the night in a caravan.
Alfie was in the sole custody of Benham, 34, of Highstreet Road, Hernhill, and Hedges, 26 – Alfie’s mother and Benham’s former partner – of Fillace Park, Yelverton, Devon, according to Maidstone Crown Court.
