A British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Antalya, Turkey, has declared an emergency near its destination.
The flight BA2864 was due to leave Gatwick at 12.45pm today, however it took off shortly after 1pm. It is scheduled to arrive in Antalya at 7 p.m. local time (5 p.m. London time). The plane is an Airbus A320-232 that is 21 years old.
The plane’s pilots have sent a code 7700, an aviation squawk number used to signify any type of emergency. The nature of the emergency is unknown at this time.
British Airways have confirmed that the flight landed safely in Antalya after declaring the emergency.
A spokesperson said: “The aircraft landed normally and safely and our customers disembarked as normal.”
They did not offer any further information as to the nature of the emergency or why it was declared.
