Two Women Nabbed in £15,000 Shoplifting Spree Across Four Counties
Nottingham Police Make Major Arrests
On Tuesday 4 July, Nottingham city centre Reacher team officers stopped a vehicle and arrested Amanda Cunningham, 44, and Gemma Beeby, 39. Both women were later charged with 18 counts of shoplifting on Sunday 12 March.
Massive Theft Ring Targeted High-Value Goods
The charges stem from a lengthy investigation into a series of high-value thefts across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, and Northamptonshire, between 15 April and 3 July 2023. The stolen haul mainly included large amounts of alcohol, plus clothing, meat products, and washing items, valued at around £15,000 in total.
Common Assault Charges Added
Alongside the theft charges, Cunningham faces two counts of common assault after allegedly threatening store staff during two separate incidents.
Awaiting Court Action
Both suspects appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 July, where they were remanded in custody. Their case is set for a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday 3 August.
Police Promise Crackdown on Shoplifting Violence
Sergeant Lou Ellis of the Nottingham city centre Reacher team said: “We know the costly impact shoplifting can have on our local communities and businesses. I want to reassure local retailers that we will continue to target those who commit these offences.
“Victims of abuse, threats, and violence carry those experiences for life. Shoplifters acting this way is unacceptable. We will keep supporting businesses to protect them from theft and assault, working together to drive down these crimes.”
