Thousands of Chocolate Bars Pulled from UK Shelves Over Deadly Allergy Risk

Urgent Recall Over Undeclared Allergens

Thousands of chocolate bars have been yanked from shops across the UK after they were found to carry a potentially fatal health risk. The culprit? The Veira Dream of Angel Hair Pistachio Chocolate (165g) contains undeclared peanuts and sesame – two serious allergens.

Distributor Dimark Limited issued the recall for batches with codes 05052025 and 07042025, with best-before dates of May 5 and April 7, 2026. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) says anyone allergic to peanuts or sesame should avoid these bars and return them immediately.

Dubai-Style Chocolates Spark Danger Alarm

These bars, made from pismaniye – a Turkish candy floss-style sweet – are part of a viral confection craze following this year’s Dubai-style chocolate fad on social media. The FSA has raised the alarm over unsafe, unlabelled snacks flooding the UK market, often lacking English ingredient lists or allergen info.

Over the summer, multiple recalls hit viral Dubai-style chocolate bars and pistachio creams, found to contain hidden nuts like peanuts, almonds, cashews, and walnuts.

Other Recent Chocolate Product Recalls

  • Home Bargains: Pulled popular Milka bars including Hazelnut, Whole Nut, and Oreo Brownie due to health risks.
  • Marks & Spencer: Urgently withdrew Milk Chocolate Honeycomb snacks over undeclared peanuts. Customers warned not to eat products with barcode 0917568/29143603.
  • TJX Europe (T.K. Maxx & Homesense): Recalled Les Florentins chocolaty biscuits after discovering undeclared gluten.

How to Stay Safe & Your Rights

If you have any of these recalled products, stop eating immediately and return them to the store for a full refund. The FSA urges shoppers to only buy sweets with clear, English labelling — especially if you have allergies.

Manufacturers and supermarkets often handle recalls, so always check their websites for the latest safety alerts. For appliances, register your item to get recall notices.

You should never pay for repair or replacement of recalled items. Follow all instructions carefully to protect yourself and your family.

Recognising Food Allergy Symptoms

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Itchy skin or raised rash (hives)
  • Swelling of lips, face, eyes (angioedema)
  • Breathing difficulties, wheezing, cough
  • Tummy pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Call 999 immediately if you experience:

  • Swelling of lips, mouth, throat or tongue
  • Severe difficulty breathing or choking sensation
  • Throat tightness or trouble swallowing
  • Skin, lips or tongue turning blue/pale
  • Sudden confusion, drowsiness, or fainting

These could signal a life-threatening allergic reaction needing urgent hospital treatment.

Stay Alert to Dangerous Treats on the Rise

The FSA warns the booming trend for exotic, viral sweets is pushing unsafe imports into UK shops – putting allergy sufferers at serious risk.
