Man Locked Up for Fatal Pub Punch on Grandad Charlie Prodromou

Paul Tallant, 43, from Eltham, has been slapped with a 10½-year prison sentence for a brutal double punch that killed 63-year-old grandad Charlie Prodromou outside a Lewisham Wetherspoon pub. The attack on March 1 ended in tragedy when Charlie fell, hitting his head fatally.

Shocking CCTV showed Tallant standing over Charlie’s motionless body, flexing his muscles as if he’d just scored – a grim celebration of a deadly assault.

Charlie: The ‘Truly Good Man’ Lost in Boozy Pub Brawl

Charlie’s family painted him as a “truly good man” with a “beautifully jolly face,” still grieving his wife’s sudden death in 2019. Struggling with alcohol, tensions were high the night of the fight.

The drama kicked off inside The Watch House pub when Charlie refused to stop smoking and shoved a female staffer. Tallant initially stepped in to calm things, but outside, Charlie threw down the gauntlet. The court heard the inside scuffle was “50:50,” but outside, Tallant launched a savage attack while Charlie was trying to back off.

The judge tore down Tallant’s claim of self-defence, making it clear Charlie posed no threat when the fatal punches landed.

Another Man Jailed Over Knife Threat During Chaos

Danny Donovan, 40, from Southwark, was handed 26 months for wielding a knife and threatening a “good Samaritan” amid the chaos. Though he tried to help Charlie after the fatal blow, the judge said Donovan’s reckless actions left Charlie at Tallant’s mercy.

Family Furious – Is Justice Done?

“That horrific night you carelessly killed my dad and a part of me with him,” said Charlie’s daughter Adele. “I hope he haunts you… my dad can rest in peace, but you never will.”

Granddaughter Taeler added, “Tallant killed her grandad to satisfy his narcissistic need to prove a point.”

Prosecutor Roy Pershad slammed Tallant’s chilling lack of remorse, pointing to his celebration while Charlie lay gravely wounded.

The CPS warned: “This case starkly shows the dangers of booze-fuelled tempers and how quickly a night out can turn deadly.”
