Firefighters are locked in a fierce battle against a raging thatched roof fire this afternoon in Hatfield Broad Oak. The emergency call came in at 3:20pm, triggering a massive response with ten fire crews, an aerial ladder platform, and a water bowser rushing to the scene.
Brave Crews Labour Through the Evening
Station Manager Howard Midwood confirmed, “We are committing a large amount of resources”. Firefighters face a tough fight extinguishing the flames and stripping back the roof to prevent the blaze spreading.
He praised their efforts, adding, “They’ve done a fantastic job creating firebreaks and salvaging possessions from the cottage.”
Despite steady progress, crews expect to stay on site well into the evening to fully quench the fire and secure the area.
