A huge fire ripped through Milton Road in Reading just before midnight on Sunday, devastating multiple local businesses and forcing residents to flee.

Emergency Evacuations Near Printworks

Thames Valley Police evacuated several blocks of flats close to the Printworks as firefighters battled the raging inferno. Fire crews worked non-stop to create a fire break and stop the flames spreading further, but the damage was already severe.

PowerX Destroyed, Neighbours Suffer Heavy Smoke Damage

  • The PowerX business was completely wiped out by the blaze.
  • A nearby paint shop’s spray unit and a car valeting service suffered major smoke damage.
  • A carpet company just a few doors away was also affected by smoke.

80-Foot Flames and 80 Firefighters Battle Blaze Through the Night

Eyewitnesses described terrifying flames shooting up to 80 feet high. Around 80 firefighters, including crews from Royal Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Oxfordshire, battled the fire into the early hours.

The fire involved a row of single-storey units. While firefighters managed to save most buildings, two units were completely gutted by the flames. The last crews left the scene on Monday afternoon.
