Update 3pm: Chaos on Caledonian Road has forced a U-turn on bus route 274 diversions. Emergency crews are still battling flooding, so commuters are warned to avoid the area at all costs.
Bus Route 274 Hit by Changing Diversions
At 2:50pm, officials scrapped earlier tweaks to bus 274’s route after the flooding worsened. This came just 20 minutes after the cordon around the burst water main was extended, piling on the commuter misery.
- Bus 274 southbound: Now rerouted from Agar Grove via York Way, Wharfdale Road, Caledonian Road, Pentonville Road, and City Road, before rejoining the London Outer Ring (LOR) in both directions.
Water Main Burst Sparks Mass Bus Disruptions
The water main blew at 1:56pm, blocking Caledonian Road both ways. Bus routes 17, 91, 259, 274, and night bus N91 have all taken big hits:
- Southbound 17, 91, N91, 259: Detoured from Caledonian Road at Market Road, right onto Market Road, left on York Way, then left onto Wharfdale Road, right back onto Caledonian Road to the LOR.
- Northbound 17, 91, N91, 259: Rerouted from York Way at Wharfdale Road, continuing along York Way, right into Market Road, then left onto Caledonian Road to LOR.
Travel Advice: Avoid Caledonian Road Now
Officials urge all travellers to steer clear of Caledonian Road until the situation is under control. Expect delays and keep tabs on live updates for route changes. Plan your journey accordingly to dodge the disruption.
