Today, around 300 officers and staff from Merseyside Police launch Operation Vanguard, a full-scale crackdown on crime in Anfield. Expect a massive police presence, with targeted teams, mounted units, the North West Underwater Search team, and more joining forces to snare those wreaking havoc in the community.

Targeting Organised Crime, Violence & Drug Networks

Chief Constable Rob Carden is sending a clear message: ‘We have zero tolerance for criminals but compassion for victims and law-abiding residents.’ The operation aims to smash serious organised crime, including:

  • Drug trafficking and County Lines gangs
  • Serious violence and domestic abuse
  • Modern slavery, burglary, robbery
  • Drug and drink driving offences

This is not a one-off raid. Operation Vanguard builds on months of hard-hitting work under the EVOLVE Everton-Vauxhall Clear and Hold programme, already delivering:

  • 115+ arrests
  • 30+ weapons seized, including machetes
  • 100kg+ of Class A, B & C drugs confiscated
  • £150,000+ in illegal cash captured
  • 120 warrants executed and 630+ stop searches performed

Crime Stats Show Progress But Challenges Remain

In the past year in north Liverpool, tough enforcement has seen:

  • Violence with injury down 11%
  • Residential burglaries down 13%
  • Anti-social behaviour fell 6%
  • Dramatic 72% rise in recorded drug dealing, showing better detection

Overall crime is slightly up by 2%, reflecting intensified action against hidden drug networks.

Police and Council Rally Behind Communities

Chief Constable Carden promises relentless pursuit of offenders:

“We are here, we are watching, and if you are involved in criminality you can expect a knock on your door.”

So far, 14 warrants have been executed today with more planned, including underwater and roadside searches. Vulnerable victims will receive safeguarding and support, aided by Liverpool City Council and local charities.

Council leader Liam Robinson added:

“There is no hiding place for criminals. The safety and wellbeing of our communities will always come first.”

Help Police Shut Down Crime

Police urge locals to keep reporting crime hotspots and drug activity. Anonymous tips are welcomed 24/7:

In an emergency always call 999.
