Ashford Residents Told to Avoid Area as Smoke Chokes Town
Fire crews raced to tackle a blaze at a derelict building near Victoria Park and Ashford town centre last night. Smoke plumed across the area, forcing locals and travellers to steer clear and keep windows and doors firmly shut.
Six fire engines and specialist support vehicles battled the flames through the night, working tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
6am Update: Danger Reduced but Traffic Chaos Looms
As of 6am on 5 March, the smoke threat has eased. Officials say residents and visitors no longer need to avoid the area or keep windows closed. However, don’t expect an easy drive — traffic congestion around Ashford town centre is likely to cause delays.
Three fire engines and a height vehicle remain on site to douse the last of the flames and ensure complete safety.
