A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a shocking attempted kidnap on Micheldever Road, Andover. Police swooped following an incident that left a woman fighting for her life – and freedom.
Woman Targeted and Struck by Van
The drama unfolded at 5.32pm on Monday, 2 March, when officers were called to reports that a woman in her 50s had been struck by a large white van. The driver then reportedly grabbed her, pulling her towards the back of the vehicle.
Luckily, the quick-thinking victim fought off her attacker and escaped to safety. She was rushed to the hospital with injuries to her knee, wrist, and nose, but has since been discharged.
Suspect Arrested, Police Hunt For Witnesses
Police described the suspect as a slim white man in his 20s or 30s, with dark hair and wearing a green fleece. After intensive enquiries, a man from Newquay was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Dal Andrews assured the public that the investigation continues at full speed.
“The woman and her family are being fully supported by officers as we continue our investigation into this incident,” DCI Andrews said.
“Local officers are in the area, carrying out house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage. We’re appealing for anyone who saw what happened or noticed a white van or a man matching this description to come forward.”
