Damien Ward Locked Up for Manslaughter

Damien Ward, 36, was handed a 7½-year sentence today at Leicester Crown Court. He was admitted to manslaughter after a vicious attack on fellow inmate Dennis Green at HMP Fosse Way.

Ward pleaded guilty back in January following the assault that left Green with fatal head injuries.

Attack Sparks Fatal Hospital Battle

The violence unfolded on 6 August 2025, when prison staff alerted police after Ward attacked 42-year-old Green. Green was rushed to the hospital but tragically died on 21 August from his injuries.

Ward was first charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, later upgraded to murder. He eventually admitted to manslaughter, a plea accepted by prosecutors.

Investigation and Aftermath

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit commented:

“Mr Green suffered a very serious attack which ultimately led to his death. I’m satisfied Ward has taken responsibility, sparing the family the pain of a trial.” “Mr Green’s family have shown great dignity throughout and I thank them for their support during this investigation.”
