Three Men Nabbed Over Mosque Arson in Peacehaven

Three men have been arrested in a major counter-terrorism probe following a fire at a mosque in Peacehaven. The blaze, which broke out on 4 October last year, sparked fears and triggered months of police investigation.

Details of the Arrests

  • A 36-year-old from Eastbourne was held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson.
  • A 38-year-old from Brighton faces charges of malicious communications and criminal damage.
  • A 42-year-old from Saltdean was arrested for malicious communications and encouraging or assisting a crime under the Serious Crime Act 2007.

The arrests were made on Tuesday 24 March by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), backed by Surrey and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Unit.

The Mosque Fire Incident

The fire was started outside the mosque on Phyllis Avenue while two people were inside. Luckily, both managed to escape unharmed. The attack sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked the counter-terrorism investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

Police say enquiries are still ongoing as they work to uncover the full story behind the attack. Officers urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring those responsible to justice.
