Three men have been snapped up in a high-profile counter-terror probe following a blaze at a mosque in Peacehaven. The fire, which erupted on 4 October last year, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a lengthy police hunt.
Suspects in Custody
- A 36-year-old from Eastbourne is held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson.
- A 38-year-old Brighton man faces charges of malicious communications and criminal damage.
- A 42-year-old from Saltdean was arrested for malicious communications and aiding crime under the Serious Crime Act 2007.
The arrests came on Tuesday 24 March, led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) with support from Surrey and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Unit.
The Mosque Fire
The fire started outside the mosque on Phyllis Avenue while two people were inside. Thankfully, both escaped unharmed. The attack deeply unsettled the local community and kicked off the counter-terrorism investigation.
