A registered sex offender from Gillingham has been jailed after wiping his internet browsing history in clear breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Edwards Broke Strict Internet Rules
Nigel Edwards, 54, was convicted in 2021 for making indecent images of children. As part of a 10-year SHPO, he was banned from deleting any internet history on his devices.
Police Spot Suspicious Activity
On 18 January 2026, police reviewing Edwards’ laptop flagged irregularities in his browsing data. They seized the device and arrested him three days later for violating his SHPO by deleting his internet history.
Edwards Sentenced to 14 Months
At Maidstone Crown Court, Edwards pleaded guilty and was jailed for 14 months on 23 March. He will remain under the SHPO for the next five years.
“Court orders such as these are there so convicted sex offenders can be closely monitored and help us safeguard children,” said Police Constable Harriette Barraclough.
“As this case shows we will do everything within our powers to ensure offenders like Edwards face justice.”
