A man in his 30s was found dead inside his car nearly 28 hours after it plummeted down a steep embankment off the M61 motorway.

The grim discovery came on Monday, March 23, after emergency crews responded to reports at around 2am. The Audi A3 driver lost control at around 10pm on Saturday but wasn’t found until almost a full day later.
Police confirmed the victim, from Nelson, Lancashire, died at the scene from severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Police Launch Urgent Appeal for Witnesses
Lancashire Police’s Serious Collision Unit is investigating the incident and urges anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
Sgt Bex Price, Road Policing Unit: “This collision has very sadly resulted in a man losing his life. I would appeal to anyone who has any information or footage which may have captured this vehicle prior to the collision to get in touch.”

Motorway Shut for Probes
Emergency services stayed at the scene all day, shutting the northbound carriageway at junction 9 to carry out investigation work.
