Wissem Bonafia, a former special constable with Northamptonshire Police, has been convicted of numerous serious sex crimes. The 48-year-old was arrested in 2020 after police received intelligence linking him to illegal child images. A raid at his Barton Seagrave home uncovered multiple electronic devices containing indecent pictures and videos of girls ranging from prepubescent age to 17, many reportedly taken by Bonafia himself.
Shocking Crimes Spanning Five Years
The offences occurred between 2014 and 2019. Bonafia faced a total of 27 charges, including:
- Six counts of raping a woman aged 16 or over
- One count of assault by penetration
- Multiple counts of assault causing actual bodily harm
- Several counts of taking and making indecent photographs of children
- Causing/inciting a girl aged 13-15 to engage in sexual activity
- Sexual communication with a child
- Perverting the course of justice
Additional charges were added in February 2026, including one more count of rape and inciting a child to engage in non-sexual activity.
Guilty Pleas and Trial Outcome
On the first day of trial, Bonafia pleaded guilty to six offences, including taking indecent photos and assault causing bodily harm. As the trial unfolded over two weeks, he admitted to four more assault charges. On March 30, the jury found him guilty of 12 further offences. He was acquitted of three rape counts, one sexual communication with a child, and one indecent photo charge.
Police Force Moves to Sack Bonafia
Following his arrest, Bonafia resigned from his special constable role in November 2021. Northamptonshire Police held an accelerated gross misconduct hearing in February 2023, ruling that he would have been dismissed without notice if still serving.
The disturbing case highlights a stark betrayal of trust by a former law enforcement figure, with justice finally served after a lengthy investigation and trial.
