Rush Hour Disaster on the A2
A serious crash involving a motorbike on the A2 westbound at Gravesend has triggered massive traffic jams during rush hour this morning (April 1). The road was shut after emergency services, including the air ambulance, rushed to the scene between Tollgate and Pepper Hill.
Traffic was completely halted from 7:10am and the road only reopened just before 8:30am, leaving motorists stuck in standstill queues stretching back towards the M2.
Motorcyclist Injured and Hospitalised
South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) confirmed the biker was taken to hospital with injuries, including damage to their arm.
SECAmb said: “We were called around 7am after reports that a person had fallen from their motorbike near Northfleet. Multiple crews treated the rider on-site before the Air Ambulance Charity joined in. The patient was then rushed by road to Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough for further treatment.”

- Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported long delays from A227 Wrotham Road to Pepper Hill, with congestion backing up to M2 Junction 1.
- Drivers were diverted off the A2 via Shorne into Gravesend.
- Official sources confirm all lanes reopened after over an hour of blockage, but lengthy delays persisted.
