Police launched a high-speed chase after a stolen Mercedes crossed into West Yorkshire this afternoon, ending in a dramatic crash involving five vehicles.

Mercedes Fails to Stop on M62

At 3:40pm on 6 April, Humberside Police alerted West Yorkshire officers that a stolen vehicle had crossed the border. The Mercedes was spotted heading westbound on the M62 and refused to stop for police around 4pm.

Crash at Bradford Road Intersection

Minutes later, the rogue Mercedes smashed into four other cars at the junction of Bradford Road and Cambridge Road in Birstall. The 21-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving, cannabis possession, and a public order offence.

Injuries and Aftermath

  • The suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
  • Several other people at the scene were checked by ambulance crews.
  • One man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalised.

The road remains closed as police carry out investigations, working closely with Humberside colleagues.
