A 27-year-old man from Worthing has pleaded guilty to raping a woman in a local car park. Suleman Mukaish appeared at Lewes Crown Court on 13 April, admitting the shocking attack on a woman in her 20s that happened on 11 March.
“Long Custodial Sentence Inevitable,” Court Warns
Prosecutor Chetna Patel made it clear that Mukaish faces a hefty prison sentence. Despite having no previous convictions, he was caught at Gatwick Airport with a one-way ticket to Pakistan, raising suspicions of fleeing justice.
“A substantial custodial sentence appears inevitable,” said the court, leaving Mukaish with no illusions about the gravity of his crime.
Investigation Praised, Victim Supported
Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour hailed the case as a “complex and meticulous investigation.” He praised the victim’s bravery and thanked witnesses for providing key evidence that pushed the case forward. Specially trained officers continue to support the victim. Sussex Police reiterated their serious commitment to tackling violence against women and girls and urged victims to come forward and seek help through specialist services.
Next Steps: Sentencing Set for June
Mukaish has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 15 June at a Crown Court venue yet to be confirmed.
