Police in the West Midlands pulled off a dramatic arrest after a suspect gave them the slip—only to jump into a canal to try and shake them off.
Chase Through Walsall
West Midlands Police’s Road Crimes Team spotted a cloned Nissan Qashqai linked to multiple vehicle thefts in Walsall. When officers tried to stop it, the driver sped off. After a short pursuit, the driver crashed the car and fled on foot. 
Dive Into Trouble
In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect plunged into a nearby canal. But it didn’t save him—the police caught him shortly after, soaking wet and under arrest.
“Officers saw this cloned Nissan Qashqai in Walsall which had also been used in other vehicle thefts. It made off and was pursued before the driver crashed and decamped but was soon arrested following a swim across a canal,” a spokesperson said.
