Detectives investigating a fatal collision on the A27 near Pevensey are appealing for more witnesses as enquiries continue into the crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man. The collision happened on the westbound carriageway of the A27, approaching Golden Jubilee Way, shortly before 6.30am on Sunday 13 July. It involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a white Volkswagen Caddy van. The driver of the Volkswagen Caddy, a 20-year-old man from Heathfield, suffered serious injuries in the collision and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he later died from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Driver arrested
The driver of the Mercedes Sprinter, a 31-year-old man from Bexhill, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving. Police enquiries remain ongoing.
Detectives seek more witnesses
Sussex Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fatal collision and are urging anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward. Investigators are particularly keen to hear from motorists who saw the Volkswagen Caddy after it had broken down on the westbound carriageway before the collision occurred. Officers believe anyone who witnessed the vehicle before the crash could hold vital information that may assist the investigation.
Appeal for dashcam footage
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either vehicle beforehand, or has dashcam footage or any other relevant evidence to get in touch. Anyone with information is urged to report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Wickham.
