A second body has been discovered at the scene of a devastating building fire in Batley as specialist police and fire investigators continue work to establish what happened.

Emergency services have remained at the building on the corner of Warwick Road and Mount Street following the fire in the early hours of Saturday, 15 August.

Detailed searches of the badly damaged building led to the discovery of a first body in the rubble on Wednesday, 19 August.

Fire service personnel carrying out further work at the scene have now sadly discovered a second body.

The second body has been recovered from the building.

Specialist police and fire investigators remain at the scene and are continuing extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established and remains under investigation.

Both bodies are due to undergo post-mortem examinations in due course as enquiries continue.

Further information, including the identities of those who have died, has not yet been released.
