Paramotor Paraglider Bombs Festival, Killing 40 in Myanmar
Horror erupted in central Myanmar when a paramotor paraglider dropped bombs on a crowd celebrating the Thadingyut full moon festival. At least 40 people died in the blast during Monday’s festivities in Chaung U township, which included an anti-junta demonstration.
Festival Turns to Bloodbath
The event was packed with hundreds of people when the deadly attack struck. An organiser, speaking anonymously, revealed the committee tried to warn the crowd, allowing about a third of the people to escape before the bombs fell.
But then the paramotor swooped low, dropping two bombs right on the gathering. The aftermath was horrific. Children were “completely torn apart,” the organiser said. “We were still collecting body parts—limbs, flesh—scattered across the ground.”
Witnesses Recall Carnage and Chaos
A local witness described the terrifying scene. “I begged people not to run, but the paramotor dropped two bombs as they panicked,” he said.
One survivor watched his friends die before his eyes. “Two of my friends were killed just in front of me, and many more perished before my eyes.” The next day, he attended funerals for nine victims.
Junta Silent as World Condemns Attack
The military junta has not yet responded to the brazen bombing. This atrocity marks a grim escalation in Myanmar’s ongoing conflict since the 2021 coup.
Amnesty International condemned the attack as a “gruesome wake-up call,” calling for urgent protection of civilians. Joe Freeman, Amnesty’s Myanmar researcher, said:
“The military is intensifying its brutal campaign against pockets of resistance, exploiting reduced international scrutiny to commit war crimes with impunity.”
Since the coup, thousands have died and millions displaced amid ongoing military offensives.
