Tragic Crash Claims Life of Experienced Biker Nigel Osler

Nigel Osler, a seasoned motorcyclist and HGV driver from Derbyshire, died following a crash with a lorry at the A617/A60 crossroads in Mansfield at around 4am on Wednesday, 12 July.

Serious Injuries Prove Fatal Despite Emergency Efforts

Mr Osler sustained severe injuries in the collision. Despite frantic efforts by emergency medics, he was pronounced dead later that day at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Family Pays Tribute and Calls for Road Safety

Specialist officers are supporting Mr Osler’s family, who have asked for privacy during their grief. In a heartfelt statement, they said:

“Nigel was a husband, dad, grandad, brother, and friend to many. What he went through was truly devastating and the resulting injuries were fatal. He loved his motorbikes and, with years of road experience, always took safety seriously.

“It is sadly ironic that he was riding to work to start his shift as an HGV driver.”

“We would like to thank everyone who has offered their support at this incredibly tough time for us all.

“If anything good can come from this, please be more aware on roads to prevent horrific tragedies like this from happening to others.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses After Long Road Closure

Investigators closed the junction and nearby roads for eight hours to carry out essential enquiries. Sergeant Craig Luckett of Nottinghamshire Police said:

“This is a tragic loss of life and our thoughts are with his family. We’re working hard to understand what happened.

If you witnessed the collision or saw a motorcycle on the road just before it happened, please call 101 quoting incident 87 of 12 July 2023. Dash cam or helmet cam footage would be extremely helpful.”
