Ambulance Hero Jason Morris Honoured by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle

Jason Morris, Clinical Team Manager at Sutton ambulance station, has scooped the prestigious Queen’s Ambulance Medal for his outstanding service. The award, presented by HRH Princess Anne at Windsor Castle, celebrates exceptional merit and conduct in ambulance roles—a rare and coveted accolade.

Jason’s Journey: From Kiwi Kid to UK Paramedic Legend

Growing up in New Zealand, Jason was always drawn to helping others. He trained with civil defence rescue teams as a youngster. At 19, he moved to England and volunteered with St John Ambulance. Here, a London Ambulance Service paramedic spotted his potential and encouraged him to turn pro.

More than two decades on, Jason remains a driving force in patient care and staff support.

Game-Changer in Emergency Care: Innovation and Dedication

  • Red Bag Scheme: Jason pioneered this life-saving initiative in Sutton care homes. The pre-packed bag carries vital patient info for ambulance crews and hospital staff, cutting unnecessary hospital stays. Its success led to a nationwide rollout in 2018.
  • Helicopter Emergency Medical Service: Since 2009, Jason has been one of London’s longest-serving Air Ambulance flight paramedics. He leads training for HEMS doctors and paramedics, helping save lives from the sky.
  • Tech Trailblazer: He introduced GoodSAM Instant-on-Scene, allowing call handlers to view a caller’s smartphone camera live. This tech helps assess injuries remotely so teams know exactly what to send. It’s been used over 80,000 times since 2019, rescuing countless patients.

Covid Frontline Fighter and Team Player

During the pandemic, Jason lived apart from his family to protect colleagues and patients. He ensured vital PPE supplies and solved logistical nightmares, keeping the London Ambulance Service running against all odds.

“It’s such an honour to be recognised in this way, and it really has been the highlight of my career,” said Jason.

“To be nominated by my colleagues makes this award even more special. I’m just part of the team—it wouldn’t be possible to do this without them.”

“This is my dream job. I love what I do and wouldn’t want to do anything else.”

Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive of London Ambulance Service, added: “Jason’s achievements show what’s possible when you work for the ambulance service. Our staff and volunteers are truly talented and caring.”
