Suspect Flees Police, Dumps Drugs in Kinder Egg in Skegby Chase
Plain-clothed cops spotted a black Skoda Fabia acting suspiciously in Skegby just after 11am on Tuesday, 18 July. When officers tried to stop the car, the driver sped off and bolted into a nearby garden on Healdswood Street, jumping over a fence to escape.
Chase Ends Near Library with Arrest and Big Find
Police caught the man close to Skegby Library on Mansfield Road. A quick search uncovered a bag stuffed with cash and cannabis dumped by the fence. Thanks to a tip-off from a member of the public, officers also found a Kinder Surprise egg container hidden in nearby bushes. Inside were wraps of white powder suspected to be cocaine, now sent off for testing.
32-Year-Old Nabbed for Drug Supply and Offensive Weapon
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply both Class A and Class B drugs. During a pat-down, officers also found a belt buckle knife, leading to an additional charge for carrying an offensive weapon in public.
Neighbourhood Inspector Jon Hewitt said: “This suspect thought he could outrun the police and brazenly discard the items we believed he had on him. However, both officers gave chase, and we arrested him for three offences. We have also taken a number of drugs off the streets as a result and an offensive weapon.
“We would also like to thank the member of the public who directed officers to where a Kinder Surprise egg had been discarded.
“We take any reports of drug dealing in our area extremely seriously and we will be out every day ensuring those who cause the most harm to our communities are caught and their operations foiled or heavily disrupted.”
