Indecent Exposure Shakes Backwell Lake

Avon & Somerset Police have launched extra patrols around Backwell Lake after two women reported shocking incidents of indecent exposure in recent days. Both victims encountered a man exposing himself while out walking.

Suspect Spotted Twice Near Backwell Lake

The first incident was reported on Thursday, 27 July, around 8.30pm. A woman spotted a man exposing himself near the lake but only contacted police after getting home. The suspect is described as a white male, about 5ft 10in, with brown hair and facial hair, aged 25-30. He was wearing shorts and riding a black pushbike.

The second reported incident happened on Tuesday, 1 August, at about 3.20pm. Police arrived quickly, but the man had vanished by then.

Police Step Up Patrols, Urge Public to Speak Up

PCSO Kate Turner and PCSO Harry Mohide are patrolling Backwell Lake on foot to catch the culprit and reassure the community. Sergeant Lee Kerslake from the Nailsea Neighbourhood Policing Team urges locals to report any suspicious activity and approach officers on patrol with concerns.

“It’s vital anyone who has experienced or witnessed anything similar comes forward,” Sgt Kerslake said, emphasising the help available for victims.

Similar Incident Nearby Raises Concerns

A related case was reported near the River Kenn in Chelvey on Monday, 22 May. Police say it’s unclear if this is linked to the Backwell incidents but are keeping an open mind given the close locations.
