A fire erupted in a building on the city’s main High Street on Sunday, June 12, sparking a rapid emergency response.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene
Firefighters from St Marys, Redbridge, Hightown, and Eastleigh battled the flames, managing to extinguish the fire just before 9 p.m.
Multiple People Treated After Smoke Inhalation
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service confirmed 12 people were safely evacuated and released at the scene.
However, another 12 were rushed to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service after inhaling smoke.
High Street Businesses Impacted
Emergency services were spotted outside popular local spots, including La Vita Caffe and New Style, as the fire was brought under control.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
